2023's The Exorcist: Believer was meant to be the beginning of a brand new sequel trilogy after Universal secured the rights to the franchise for a hefty $400 million. However, Universal has pulled the film from its scheduled release date whilst Blumhouse looks for a new director.

After Believer performed disastrously at the box office, Universal has scrapped Deceiver's April 18, 2025 release and has parted ways with director David Gordon Green. THR reported that Green has left "as he focuses on his production of Nutcrackers starring Ben Stiller, as well as season four of HBO’s The Righteous Gemstones." The director did previously admit he was doubtful he'd return in an interview before the films release.
“My intention is just to start making things, and as those plans come together, if I find myself in that [The Exorcist: Deceiver] director’s chair, I’d be thrilled. But right now, I’m navigating it from a story perspective and looking at my realities of life as I pivot.”
There's no word as to where the story will go from here without Green's involvement. No confirmation if Scott Teems, Peter Sattler or Danny McBride will be returning on writing duties either.
The Exorcist: Believer is currently available on digital, DVD, Blu-ray & 4K Ultra HD.
