Talk to Me has already managed to earn an impressive $26 million at the global box office from a $4.5 million budget impressing critics and horror fans alike (read my review HERE), and it turns out A24 and the Philippou brothers are looking to expand on the film's massive success with a sequel.
“We have a lot of original stories that we want to tell, but the Talk to Me stuff is exciting to us, too. So the idea of a sequel, we wouldn’t be opposed to it.” - Michael Philippou (Deadline)
A24 has officially ordered up a sequel to the hit film with Danny and Michael Philippou returning to direct. Bill Hinzman will be writing the screenplay with Danny Philippou. What we can expect from the next film is being kept under wraps at the moment with the brother jokingly asking Deadline “What do you think? Do you reckon we should do a new story or continue?”
The Australian film making duo, who first came onto the scene with their YouTube channel RackaRacka in 2013, did hint at a sequel in an interview with Deadline before the film's release with Danny saying “if A24 want it, I’ll bloody give it to them.”
“Because I was writing it for so long and we were redrafting and redrafting, you just can’t help but start writing other scenes, scenes of different people experiencing the hands, continuing on these characters’ story. So, there’s scenes for a sequel, yeah. And if A24 want it, I’ll bloody give it to them.”[Laughs]
Whilst now gearing up for a sequel, the brothers also revealed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter they have already filmed a prequel that explains more of the back story beheind Duckett, his brother and that brutal opening sequence.
“We actually shot an entire Duckett prequel already. It’s told entirely through the perspective of mobile phones and social media, so maybe down the line we can release that,” Danny Philippou says. “But also while writing the first film, you can’t help but write scenes for a second film. So there’s so many scenes. The mythology was so thick, and if A24 gave us the opportunity, we wouldn’t be able to resist. I feel like we’d jump at it.”
Fingers crossed we'll get to see that prequel they've shot for Duckett as well!
