The last week looks like it's been a busy few weeks for Paramount, Spyglass and their upcoming sequel Scream 7, as they announce a slew of casting news.
Scream 7 Casting News
Firstly, Deadline revealed actress Isabel May has signed on to play Sidney Prescott's daughter.
We have confirmed that 1883 actress Isabel May is definitely playing the daughter of Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott in Spyglass Media Group’s upcoming Scream 7. The deal is locked
Neve Campbell, who missed the previous film die to a salary dispute, will return to her iconic role. She later revealed, the upcoming seventh instalment will be a return to the franchise’s roots with Final Girl Sidney Prescott being the central character in the film. May's casting not only supports that, but it also indicates we're in for a rather big time jump since Scream VI. If you remember, she didn't appear in the previous film as she was taking care of her small children.
Next addition to the cast is none other than Ghostbusters: Afterlife & Frozen Empire star McKenna Grace. As reported by Deadline-
Mckenna Grace is set to join the cast of Spyglass Media Group and Paramount’s Scream 7. She joins the previously announced Neve Campbell, who will be reprising her role from the franchise
Fresh off playing Phoebe Spengler in the two most recent Ghostbusters sequels, the granddaughter of iconic character Egon Spengler, it proved to be one of the best casting decisions the Ghostbusters franchise has made in recent years. Grace stole the show and has fast become a fan favourite. And of course, with Grace already proving her worth within the horror genre with previous roles in Haunting of Hill House, Malignant and Annabelle Comes Home I feel she's a fantastic addition to the cast.
May and Grace join other newcomers to the Scream franchise Anna Camp (Pitch Perfect), Celeste O’Connor (Freaky, Ghostbusters: Afterlife), Asa Germann (The Boys, Gen V) and Sam Rechner (The Fabelmans).
In addition to Campbell returning to the franchise, Variety revealed today that 'Core Four' member Mason Gooding will also return for the next film.
Sources tell me that the actor will reprise his role Chad Meeks-Martin for the seventh installment of the horror franchise. Jasmin Savoy Brown, who plays Chad’s sister Mindy, has not officially signed on yet.
Another familiar face is a bonus after the initial problems that plagued production before it had even started. Spyglass made the controversial decision to fire their new Scream star Melissa Barrera for comments she made on social media about the Israel-Hamas War. Other new franchise lead Jenna Ortega then left the production shortly after siting "scheduling conflicts". The film's director Chris Landon (Happy Death Day) then parted after that stating "it was a dream job that turned into a nightmare".
Mason Gooding did say back in March 2024, he was confident this film would still happen regardless of the utter shit-show that unfolded.
“If it could make money, I guarantee, they’re making it. It’s all about keeping up with what feels like is the best movie for the fans. ‘Scream’ doesn’t exist without the people who enjoy is as much as they do. … If people want it, they will certainly try their best to see it happen.”
Other surviving legacy cast members Jasmin Savoy Brown, Patrick Dempsey, Courteney Cox and Hayden Panettiere have not signed on as of yet, although Cox is expected to return.
Dempsey did reveal in an interview on the Today show in October, that he had been in talks to return. And with the new film looking to focus on Sidney, and 2022's Scream revealed Kincaid later married her and had kids, his return would make sense.
“I’m waiting on the script. There has been a conversation about it. I haven’t seen anything yet. So, we’ll see what happens.I mean, you know, it’s always good to have a job.”
Fingers crossed we don't miss out on what could be great use of these characters and their story. I loved seeing Panettiere return in Scream VI, so I'm holding out hope we haven't seen the last of Kirby! Dempsey's return would be equally as amazing.
Scream original writer Kevin Williamson has since taken over from Landon and will make his directing debut with the sequel. The script is being written by Scream & Scream VI scribe Guy Busick. Project X Entertainment’s James Vanderbilt, William Sherak and Paul Neinstein are producing. Scream 7 will slash into cinemas 27th February, 2026.
