It appears that Pinhead and his fellow Cenobites will be heading to the small screen!
As reported by Deadline, HBO has made a deal to develop a series based on the iconic horror franchise Hellraiser.
Furthermore, Halloween director and co-writer David Gordon Green is set to direct the pilot and "several more inital episodes". The series will be penned by Daredevil writer Mark Verheiden and the brilliant mind behind cult classic Trick 'r Treat- Michael Dougherty.
"The producers put together the rights package last June, based on the Hellraiser film franchise hatched from Clive Barker’s novella The Hellbound Heart. The idea is to create an elevated continuation and expansion of the well-established Hellraiser mythology. It is by no means a remake, but rather assumes the past mythology to be a given. Expect a revisit from Pinhead, the merciless leader of the Cenobites, the formerly humans-turned-demons that live in an extra-dimensional realm and are activated through a puzzle box called the Lament Configuration. The Cenobites come from hell to harvest human souls and keep balance between good and evil."
Earlier this year, we reported a Hellraiser reboot is also coming. The HBO series will not be related to or connected in anyway to the film currently being developed by SpyGlass Media.
There is currently no news regarding who will be starring in the series. Hopefully Doug Bradley and his original co-stars get some sort of inclusion.
The series executive producers are David Gordon Green, Michael Dougherty, Mark Verheiden, Dan Farah, Vertigo Entertainment’s Roy Lee, Lawrence Kuppin, David Salzman, Eric Gardner, Andrew Farah, Adam Salzman, Danny McBride, Jody Hill and Brandon James.
