There has been rumours about Campbell's future within the Scream franchise circulating the internet over the last few days following fan interactions at a convention, but nothing was made official until now. Campbell has unfortunately confirmed these rumours to be true speaking to Deadline earlier today.
Speaking with Deadline the actress has confirmed she will not be returning to the franchise due to the pay. In the interview she stated she "felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise"
“Sadly I won’t be making the next Scream film. As a woman I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream. I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise. It’s been a very difficult decision to move on. To all my Scream fans, I love you. You’ve always been so incredibly supportive to me. I’m forever grateful to you and to what this franchise has given me over the past 25 years.”
As things stand this will be the first Scream film to have absolutely no involvement from Neve Campbell since she first started playing Sidney Prescott in 1996. Could this potentially have a knock on effect for Courteney Cox and her involvement in Scream 6? I thought the franchise could have finished with Scream 5 being a strong and solid ending, and if I'm being honest even the fact Kirby's back may not be enough to draw me in if there's no Sidney.
New franchise cast members Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding are returning for Scream 6 as is Hayden Panettiere. Dermot Mulroney is the latest cast member to be announced. In the next instalment, opening on March 31, 2023; the four survivors of the Ghostface killings leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter.
