In an interesting turn of events, two previous killers that portrayed Ghostface in previous films will be returning to the Scream franchise.
Matthew Lillard & Scott Foley Join Scream 7
Deadline announced that Scoff Foley has joined the cast. Foley of course, previously portrayed Scream 3's killer (and Sidney's long lost brother) Roman Bridger.
Scott Foley (Scream 3, The Girls on the Bus) has joined the cast of Scream 7 from Spyglass and Paramount Pictures. Details regarding his character and the film’s plot are currently under wraps. However, Foley is already part of the Scream universe having portrayed antagonist Roman Bridger, the film director and half-brother of Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) who was revealed to be the Ghostface Killer of Scream 3.
Foley’s casting comes with its own set of questions because Roman was killed by Dewey (David Arquette) at Sidney’s request. Roman has faked his own death before so it’s plausible that he could reprise the role in the present or perhaps in flashback form in the past if he is deceased.
Could Roman have a long-lost twin? Leaves you wondering if he'll be making a similar return to Skeet Ulrich's Billy Loomis is the fifth film.
Furthermore to Foley's return, it also looks as if Matthew Lillard's Stu Macher from the first film will also be making a return. Also reported by Deadline-
Matthew Lillard, who played Stuart ‘Stu’ Macher in the first 1996 Scream movie, is returning to the franchise for Spyglass/Paramount’s Scream 7. How is that possible? We will see. Does Stu have a twin? Doesn’t look like it from Lillard’s Instagram post.
Lillard has been quite vocal in recent years that he believes Stu Macher is still alive, and that he’d love to return to the franchise that helped launch his career At this time we can’t tell if Lillard is playing Stu in Scream 7 or the film is taking a unique approach to bringing back past actors from the saga, but Lillard took to Instagram to further speculation as to whether or not he survived the multiple stabbings, Sidney's ass-kicking and a old school TV to the head.

Lillard and Foley join returning cast members Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, Courteney Cox and Neve Campbell as well as an array of newcomers to the franchise. This includes recently announced Joel McHale, who, in a shocking turn of events, will be playing Sidney's husband Mark Evans. After that brief conversation with Dewey in 2022's Scream, it was assumed by the majority of the fan base that she ended up with Mark Kincaid from Scream 3.
Also starring Isabel May (1883), McKenna Grace (Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire), Anna Camp (Pitch Perfect), Celeste O’Connor (Freaky, Ghostbusters: Afterlife), Asa Germann (The Boys, Gen V) and Sam Rechner (The Fabelmans), the film is expected to release February 27th, 2026.
The film is currently shooting in Atlanta with Scream writer Kevin Williamson taking over directorial duties with the script written by Guy Busick. Plot details are being kept under lock and key at the moment, but the upcoming seventh instalment will reportedly be a return to the franchise’s roots with Final Girl Sidney Prescott being the central character in the film.
