M3GAN 2.0 Officially Announced

M3GAN has become a massive hit within a week of releasing to cinemas raking in (as of yesterday) over $100 million worldwide at the box office, so it's no surprise Blumhouse and Atomic Monster have started gearing up for a sequel.

Officially announced this afternoon, M3GAN 2.0 has been greenlit and will be heading to theatres January 17th 2025. Stars Violet McGraw and Alison Williams will be returning to reprise their roles with Akela Cooper also returning on writing duties. And much like the first film, James Wan and Jason Blum are on board as producers. A director has yet to be announced; hopefully Johnstone will be back for the sequel.

“After I first saw the movie, we had a good sense that a sequel might really work. So, we broke our cardinal rule and we started talking about a sequel before the movie was released. I felt so bullish that we started entertaining a sequel earlier than we usually do.” - Jason Blum speaking with Variety.

There's no details regarding the story yet, but with Williams and McGraw reprising their roles I'm hoping it'll follow shortly after the ending of M3GAN. With that ending I was always hoping for a sequel!

M3GAN is currently in cinemas.

M3GAN is a marvel of artificial intelligence, a life-like doll programmed to be a child’s greatest companion and a parent’s greatest ally. Designed by brilliant toy-company roboticist Gemma (Get Out’s Allison Williams), M3GAN can listen and watch and learn as she becomes friend and teacher, playmate and protector, for the child she is bonded to.

When Gemma suddenly becomes the caretaker of her orphaned 8-year-old niece, Cady (Violet McGraw, The Haunting of Hill House), Gemma’s unsure and unprepared to be a parent. Under intense pressure at work, Gemma decides to pair her M3GAN prototype with Cady in an attempt to resolve both problems—a decision that will have unimaginable consequences.
