So, it looks like Sidney Prescott will be married in the upcoming Scream film- unfortunately it won't be to Patrick Dempsey's Mark Kincaid.
Joel McHale Joins Cast of Scream 7
Although Patrick Dempsey did previously say he was in talks to return to the Scream franchise for the upcoming film, Deadline has revealed today Joel McHale will be playing Sidney's husband.
Scream franchise final girl Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) has a husband, and it’s not Detective Mark Kincaid (Patrick Dempsey) of Scream 3, as has been speculated online. Set to play her spouse, Mark Evans, in Scream 7 is none other than Joel McHale, who’s currently in production on the film in Atlanta.
When Sidney showed up in 2022's Scream, she briefly chatted to Dewey about 'Mark' via phone. Of course, we all made the assumption / educated guess she ended up with Scream 3's Mark Kincaid.
McHale joins fellow Scream newcomers Isabel May (1883), McKenna Grace (Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire), Anna Camp (Pitch Perfect), Celeste O’Connor (Freaky, Ghostbusters: Afterlife), Asa Germann (The Boys, Gen V) and Sam Rechner (The Fabelmans). Legacy cast members Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox & Mason Gooding have also returned to reprise their roles.

Kevin Williamson, writer of the original Scream as well as Scream 2 and Scream 4, is directing the latest slasher from a script by Guy Busick, who co-wrote Scream 5 and Scream 6. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the slasher sequel is expected to bring the focus back onto Sidney and her family.
The film, currently in production in Atlanta, is set to release in cinemas February 27th, 2026.
