In regards to holiday horror films, I think it's safe to say Christmas and Halloween are well covered, but I can't really recall many being set around New Years Eve. Well upcoming indie horror-comedy New Fears Eve looks to settle that with a visit from 'The Doctor'.
The Doctor Will Slay You Now!
“When three co-workers are forced to host their company’s annual New Year’s Eve party, they’re not prepared for an unexpected guest: a serial killer dubbed “The Doctor,” who targets the party and turns the night of celebration into a bloodbath and fight for survival.”
New Fears Eve essentially follows the story of three friends who involuntarily prepare for Hooper Industries' annual New Year's Eve party. The night turns deadly when 'The Doctor' sets his sights on them.
The film from Blood Moon Pictures was written by PJ Starks (13 Slays Till X-Mas, Cryptids), who also co-produced and co-directed with Eric Huskisson (VOB: Horror Stories, 13 Slays Till X-Mas). Also on board to produce were Final Destination creator Jeffrey Reddick as well as horror-comedy legends Dave Sheridan and Felissa Rose (all three also star).
Horror Comedy New Fears Eve Coming Soon!
The film boasts a pretty solid cast with some names horror fans will certainly be familiar with. The exciting ensemble cast includes Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp), Hannah Fierman (V/H/S, Siren, Creepshow), Dave Sheridan (Scary Movie, The Devil’s Rejects), Jeffrey Reddick (Final Destination creator) Lily-Claire Harvey (Hindsdale House), Sonya Delormier (Phantom Fun World), Jay Woolston (13 Slays Till X-Mas), Alyssa Rhoads (It Lives in the Attic), Jason Crowe (The Art of Killing), Roni Jonah (Shark Exorcist 2), Matthew Tichenor, Collin Horn, Gina Parker, Turner Vaughn (UFO Girl) and featuring Jesse McDonald as 'The Doctor'.
The film has currently been doing the festival circuit, and managed to pick up several awards and nominations along the way. New Fears Eve picked up 'Best Horror Comedy' at the Chicago Horror Film Festival and several at the 2024 Wolf Media Festival. These included 'Best Supporting Male Actor', 'Best New Male Lead', 'Best Female Lead', 'Best New Director', 'Best Cinematography', 'Best Horror Comedy', the 'Committee Select Award' and 'L.Y.C.A.N. Award'. More recently it picked up a nomination for Fangoria Chainsaw Awards and is currently an Official Selection at Days of the Dead Film Festival in Indianapolis.
The film's next screening is 6th December 2024 at the NYC Horror Film Festival, before it makes its way across the pond to us here in the UK at Horror On Sea Film Festival January 11th 2025.
I'll admit I think this one looks like good fun, and from the sounds of it we're in for a treat regarding the kills. Jeffrey Reddick told fans to expect some gruesome kills in an earlier interview with Bloody Disgusting.
“I went down to Kentucky to shoot my scenes and got to work with Dave Sheridan and Felissa Rose, which was a blast. “The Doctor” kills over 35 people in all kinds of unique ways. There are definitely some gruesome kills you haven’t seen before.”
