As reported by Variety, the upcoming Gremlins prequel animated show will make its world premiere at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival on June 13th.
The 10-part series will release later this year (exact date is yet to be confirmed) via HBO Max and Cartoon Network. The half-hour animated series from WB Animation and Amblin TV is set 1920s Shanghai and tells the story of how 10-year-old Sam Wing met the young Mogwai called Gizmo. And judging by the first look image above, this looks to be a lot more kid friendly than the films were. You can check out the full synopsis and voice cast below.
A period piece set in 1920s Shanghai, it reveals how a 10-year-old Sam Wing – who becomes the future shop owner Mr. Wing in the 1984 movie – met the young Mogwai called Gizmo. They strike up a lifelong friendship as Wing attempts to return Gizmo to his family, encountering and sometimes battling colourful monsters and spirits from Chinese folklore. Meanwhile, the two and street thief Elle are pursued by a power-hungry industrialist and his growing army of evil Gremlins.
