First Black Phone 2 Footage Shown at CinemaCon

Universal & Blumhouse gave fans the first glimpse of footage for sequel Black Phone 2 debuted at CinemaCon, and it sounds like the supernatural elements have been amped up with The Grabber reportedly going down the 'Freddy Krueger' route.

The Grabber

Unfortunately, the footage hasn't been released or put online officially as of yet. How it goes with cons, fingers crossed it won't be too long before we see the footage for ourselves. Thankfully, both Discussing Film & Screen Rant were in attendance. You can check out their re-caps below.

CinemaCon 2025 attendees were the first to see footage from Scott Derrickson’s The Black Phone 2. The excluisve reel stars with a bleak vibe, with a slow version of Alice in Chains’ “The Rooster” playing, a child is being chased through the snow in what looks like grainy lo-fi footage. As the child’s terrified face flashes on the screen, it lingers even through the next image. Finney (Mason Thames) appears to be living a sullen life, as his sister Gwen (Madeleine McGraw) is having strange visions.

The repeated images of an out-of-order Black Phone and Gwen at a summer camp build to a reveal as the black phone rings: The Grabber (Ethan Hawke) is hanging around in the afterlife, out to make their life a living hell. The rest of the footage is pure nightmare fuel. There’s a striking image of The Grabber ice skating towards the camera in slow-motion. It appears that The Grabber has a special connection with Gwen, managing to somehow get ahold of her from, spinning her around in rapid succession as Finney appears to see that image in a phone booth. Without a doubt, it looks even more terrifying than the first movie given its stronger supernatural elements.

Discussing film co-owner & managing director Andrew J. Salazar later added on X that The Grabber has gone "full Freddy Krueger"

In THE BLACK PHONE 2, The Grabber goes full Freddy Krueger and is seeking revenge on the kids from the first movie from beyond the grave. He's got full demonic powers now and can make children hallucinate incredibly cruel deaths. Derrickson is cooking here.

Teaser begins with a payphone/phone booth in the off the side of the road in winter. Finney is walking and sees a pay phone and stops. We then see three photos being placed on a table and then it cuts to a boy inside a basement, with someone very slowly and loudly walking down the stairs. Later, Finney answers the phone and the Grabber appears on the outside. “Hello Finney. Did you think our story was over? You of all people know that death is just a word.” Finney is shown in the phone booth a lot, with scenes of the other boy (or kids) being attacked and nearly murdered. It’s pretty much like Freddy Krueger now.

This sounds incredibly promising, hopefully we'll be getting more updates soon. The Black Phone 2 releases October 17th from Blumhouse & Universal.
