With shooting set to start this summer, pre-production for Scream 6 is well underway. Hoping to capitalise on the success of 2022's Scream, which grossed £140 million worldwide, the film will follow the events of the previous requel.
Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding and Jenna Ortega will all be returning to reprise their roles as will fan favourite Hayden Panettiere (Kirby) from Scream 4. According to THR, Dermot Mulroney has signed on to play a cop in the upcoming film. A seasoned actor as a replacement Sheriff after Hicks succumbed to Ghostface in the previous film perhaps? At this point we can only speculate. Whilst Campbell has yet to confirm returning as Sidney Prescott, Courteney Cox has confirmed she will be back as Gale Weathers.
Plot details are being kept under wraps at the moment, but the film makers have said Scream 6 "continues with the four survivors of the Ghostface killings as they leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter."
James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick are back to write the script with Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, from the filmmaking collective known as Radio Silence, returning as directors. Project X Entertainment’s Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein and William Sherak are serving as producers. Original Scream scribe Kevin Williamson and the third member of Radio Silence, Chad Villella, are executive producing alongside Spyglass’ Gary Barber and Peter Oillataguerre, Ron Lynch, Cathy Konrad and Marianne Maddalena.
