In an interesting turn of events, the Scream franchise is set to apparently resurrect yet another dead character.

As reported by Deadline, David Arquette has officially signed on to reprise his role as Dewey Riley in the upcoming Scream film.
David Arquette (Scream) is joining Scott Foley and Matthew Lillard returning from the dead (somehow?) in Scream 7 from Spyglass and Paramount Pictures, sources tell Deadline. The trio played characters who died in the franchise and are returning in a surprise way. Details regarding how his character comes back and the film’s plot are currently under wraps.
Arquette's fan favourite character Dewey was killed off by Mickey Madison's Amber in an iconic scene in 2022's Scream. Arquette joins other surprising cast members Matthew Lillard and Scott Foley, and the unexpectedly cast Joel McHale- who's playing Sidney's husband Mark (Mark Evans, not Mark Kincaid).
Campbell is of course back as Sidney after missing the last film due to a salary dispute, with Courteney Cox also back reprising her role as Gale Weathers. Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding also return as the Meeks-Martin siblings with an array of 'Scream newcomers'. This includes Isabel May (1883), McKenna Grace (Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire), Anna Camp (Pitch Perfect), Celeste O’Connor (Freaky, Ghostbusters: Afterlife), Asa Germann (The Boys, Gen V) and Sam Rechner (The Fabelmans).

The film is currently in production with Paramount & Spyglass setting a February 27th, 2026 release date. Scream writer Kevin Williamson is on directorial duties with the script written by Guy Busick. Plot details are being kept under lock and key at the moment, but the upcoming seventh instalment will reportedly be a return to the franchise’s roots with Final Girl Sidney Prescott being the central character in the film.
