Rumours had been circulating online over the past few days, but nothing was confirmed until The Hollywood Reporter officially broke the story.

Spyglass is answering the call once more, throwing a new Scream movie into development. The company has tapped Christopher Landon — a scary movie stalwart whose credits include the Happy Death Day series as well as body-switching horror-comedy Freaky — to direct the seventh installment of the long-running franchise, multiple sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

Landon succeeds Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (Radio Silence), who directed the 2022 requel and it's recent sequel Scream VI. Despite being incredibly keen to return to finish off their trilogy, Gillet and Bettinelli-Olpin had to step back due to their commitments on their upcoming Universal Monsters film. They are both on board as executive producers along with third member of Radio Silence Chad Villella.

No word yet on who will be writing the script and which cast members, if any, will return. Melissa Barrera and Mason Gooding are expected to return, however no cast members have signed on as of yet. Ortega's return may prove difficult due to a busy schedule including the next series of Netflix's hit series Wednesday, only time will tell.

More to follow.
