The highly anticipated sequel 28 Years Later was announced this January with Danny Boyle and Alex Garland re-uniting to kick start a brand new trilogy. And we have an update regarding the cast to the upcoming film.
Unfortunately Cilian Murphy isn't one of the updates, as things currently stand he is just producing (despite expressing interest in reprising his role previously); hopefully that will change. Meanwhile, Deadline have revealed Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer and Ralph Fiennes have officially signed on for 28 Years Later.
Comer, following her Emmy-award winning performance is Killing Eve, has been keeping busy coming into this film off the back end of Free Guy, Ridley Scott's The Last Duel and The Bikeriders opposite Austin Butler & Tom Hardy. Taylor-Johnson continues his working relationship with Sony following Bullet Train and the upcoming Spider-Man villain film Kraven The Hunter. Look out for him in the upcoming Gosling/Blunt action-comedy The Fall Guy and Robert Eggers Nosferatu remake later this year. Oscar nominated Fiennes is currently finishing up a four city international run of Macbeth before starting this with films Conclave and The Return releasing this autumn.
Plot details and details of what characters they'll play are currently being kept quiet. Boyle is returning to directing duties based off a script by Garland, however Sony have tapped Candyman's Nia DaCosta to direct the second film in this new trilogy.
Boyle and Garland are also producing 28 Years Later, as is original producer Andrew Macdonald and Peter Rice. Bernie Bellew is also producing.
